James Michael Shaughnessy is a mediator residing and maintaining his office in Clinton, Connecticut. Prior to becoming a mediator, for 48 years, Mr. Shaughnessy was an attorney in the City of New York practicing as a trial attorney and litigator. During his 48 years of practicing law, Mr. Shaughnessy was admitted to practice law in the States of New York, California and New Jersey, as well as before many Federal Courts, including the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Shaughnessy graduated cum laude from New York University School of Law in May 1969. At NYU, Mr. Shaughnessy was a member of the Order of the Coif, was the Administrative Director of the Moot Court Program, and was the recipient of the Benjamin F. Butler Award. Mr. Shaughnessy retired from the practice of law in November 2017. For many years until his retirement, Mr. Shaughnessy was rated “AV Preeminent,” which is the “Highest Possible Rating in Both Legal Ability & Ethical Standards Reflecting the confidential opinions of members of the Bar and Judiciary” by Martindale-Hubbell. Since his retirement, Mr. Shaughnessy successfully completed Mediation Skills Training and Advanced Mediation Skills Training at the Quinnipiac University School of Law. Mr. Shaughnessy is a member of the Connecticut Mediation Association.
